Phelps For the Fort representative Kevin Greven presented SGT Michael Angelo Austin with the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital Soldier of the Year award at the Rolla Chamber’s May Luncheon.
SGT Michael Austin graduated high school early through an accelerated program in 2019. He then graduated from a technical school to become a certified machinist at the age of 17, after which he enlisted in the Army in June of 2020.
SGT Austin attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood before attending Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sam Houston, where he earned the MOS of 68W. He returned to Fort Leonard Wood for his first duty station and was assigned to the Richard Wilson Troop Medical Clinic, where he provides medical care to Service Members in training to include Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, and Airmen.
He is currently enrolled at American Military University, where he is pursuing an Associates in Space Studies.
His short-term goals are to earn the Air Assault skill badge and pass Green Platoon for SOAR. As for long-term goals, he would like to obtain a bachelor’s degree in education and attend Special Forces assessment and selection.
