Two members of the Waynesville High School boys’ wrestling squad advanced to the Missouri Class 4 State Championships through their performance at the District 3 Tournament, held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17-18 at Ozark.
The top four finishers in each weight class moved on from district to the state championships.
For the Tigers Joshua Bess in the 215-pound weight class finished fourth and Jacob Forshey was third at heavyweight.
Forshey and Bess will be joined by four Lady Tigers at the state tournament. The Boys’ Class 4 and Girls’ Class 2 State Championships will be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25 at the Mizzou Arena in Columbia. The Boys’ Class 1-2 and the Girls’ Class 1 State Championships are scheduled to be held Feb. 22-23 at the Mizzou Arena.
The Waynesville girls competing at the state tournament are Haylee Fort at 145, Mckenzie Moffet at 170, Yisel Perez at 190 and Isabelle Lemmond at 235.
The Waynesville boys finished seventh in the team standings of the 15-school District 3 Tournament with 54 points. Host Ozark won the team title with 191 points while Neosho was runner-up with 146 and Lebanon third with 143.
In their respective third-place matches Forshey pinned Kwan Watkins of Sedalia Smith-Cotton while Bess was pinned by Hank Natali of Lee’s Summit North.
