Mercy Springfield Communities, a health system with clinics in Rolla, St James, Salem and St. Robert, has announced that its hospital in Springfield has just earned national recognition for the level of care it provides patients across the Ozarks.
This week, U.S. News & World Report, a magazine with national circulation, released its 2025 list of Best Hospitals, and Mercy Hospital Springfield ranked fourth in Missouri.
“It’s an honor any time our team is recognized for the award-winning level of care they provide our patients,” said John Myers, president of Mercy Springfield Communities. “What stands out this year is that two of our primary focuses – cardiology and orthopedics – earned high performing ratings for a variety of services.”
Besides being listed as one of Missouri’s top hospitals, Mercy Hospital Springfield earned the high performer status for 19 of its adult procedures and conditions ranging from pneumonia and leukemia to heart arrhythmia and stroke.
This also marks Mercy’s second recognition of its stroke program so far this year after it was named an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission in February, making it one of only seven hospitals in Missouri to earn the certification.
In addition, two other Mercy hospitals in a different division of Mercy, also ranked high on the U.S. News & World Report list. Mercy Hospital St. Louis ranked second in Missouri while Mercy Hospital South, also in the St. Louis area, ranked seventh.

Within cardiology, Mercy is a high performer for heart attacks, heart arrhythmia, heart failure, heart bypass surgery, pacemaker implantation and aortic valve surgery. For orthopedics, Mercy is a high performer for hip fractures, back surgery, hip replacement and knee replacement. In addition to the U.S. News & World Report, Mercy Hospital Springfield was named No. 1 in Missouri for joint replacement and orthopedic surgery by Healthgrades this past year.
