Author donates book to school

Luge Hardman, a retired teacher and former mayor of Waynesville, donated her book “Tales From the Chalkboard: A Teacher’s Personal Journey” to the Waynesville R-VI School District during the Board of Education meeting on April 20, 2026. On behalf of the district, Superintendent Hilary Bales accepted the memoir on the lasting bonds between educators and their students. Hardman taught in the district from 1971 to 2001. Her book “blends personal memories, classroom stories and local history with thoughtful insight into how education, technology, discipline and student culture evolved” during her tenure. Proceeds from the book will be used to fund a scholarship for Waynesville High School seniors. From left are author Hardman, publisher Lindsay Teal-Parrott and Superintendent Bales are pictured.
