People living near Morelli Heights and Magness Street can now order from Fort Leonard Wood’s Commissary online and receive their orders in their neighborhoods on Saturdays.
Order drop offs will take place at noon at Morelli Heights, and 1 p.m. on the corner of Magness and Hall streets.
According to Anthony Jackson, Commissary Click2Go store worker, the new policy is “all about convenience.”
“We want our service members to be able to pick up their groceries at a location that is more convenient for them,” Jackson said, noting customers can now select pick up or drop off through the Commissary Click2Go smart phone app.
Ricardo Edelman, Commissary store director, said the drop-off option is a service he is excited to offer to customers living in the primarily single service member housing areas.
“I wish I had this service when I was in the Army. This would have saved me a lot of money,” Edelman said. “We are expanding to drop off in the barracks areas on Saturday because many of them don’t have transportation to drive here.”
Click2Go shopping, meaning customers order online and then pick up at the store, started in 2021, Edelman said.
“The initial project was to serve our customers without them having to come inside if they didn’t want to. Now, people really enjoy the convenience of not having to come inside if they don’t have time. Last year, we went from about 10 orders a day to 25 to 30 orders each day,” Edleman said. “Online ordering is free and drop off is free. It is a wonderful benefit available to our customers, why not take advantage of it.”
Jackson said drop-off orders must be submitted online at the Commissary’s Click2Go shopping website or via the Commissary Click2Go app before 8 a.m. on Saturday to be eligible for the same-day drop-off times.
The website lets customers place an order up to a week in advance.
Jackson, who has been filling Click2Go orders since the program began, said he enjoys shopping for customers and the more information they can provide in the online ordering notes section for each item purchased the better.
“It makes me feel great to help people. When I shop for our customers, I shop like I am shopping for myself or my family. I try to pick out the best produce and choose items that will fit the customer’s needs,” Jackson said. “I love (added) notes and it helps if the customer chooses best comparable substitution or no substitution from the drop-down box on each item.”
Edelman said there are more improvements ahead for Fort Leonard Wood’s Click2Go program.
“We are working on a delivery program for the future. It is in the works,” Edelman said.
