The Army Office of Special Trial Counsel referred charges against SPC Wooster Rancy on July 8 in relation to the death of SGT Sarah Roque, according to a press release by U.S. Army Office of Special Trial Counsel Director of Communications Michelle McCaskill.
Rancy is charged with murder and obstructing justice in violation of Articles 118 and 131b of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
McCaskill said, now that the case is referred to court-martial, a military judge will be assigned and schedule the arraignment, dates for pre-trial hearings and the trial itself.
SPC Rancy is being held in pretrial confinement at the Midwest Joint Regional Confinement Facility at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
The charges are merely allegations and SPC Rancy is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Preliminary Hearing
Article 32 preliminary hearing for Rancy convened before an impartial judge advocate May 6 at Fort Leonard Wood. The Army Office of Special Trial Counsel preferred charges against Rancy on Oct. 20, 2024, stemming from the death of SGT Sarah Roque.
Body found in dumpster

During a press conference Oct. 24, Maj. Gen. Christopher Beck, MSCoE and Fort Leonard Wood commanding general, and Army Criminal Investigation Division Special Agent John McCabe confirmed investigation into a “potential homicide” in the death of Roque.
Roque, Ligonier, Indiana, was a bridge crewmember, serving as a Mine Dog Handler with the K9 Detachment, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 5th Engineer Battalion. She enlisted in 2020 and attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood.
The charges are merely allegations and SPC Rancy is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
