Murder charge filed over fatal St. James stabbing

Law enforcement was alerted to the stabbing at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, according to the case’s probable cause statement. The statement says officers responding from the St. James Police Department and Phelps County Sheriff’s Department determined the incident occurred in the 600 block of Saint David Street. Luke Moreland was declared deceased on scene due to eight stab wounds. A second victim was stabbed nine times but survived.

The statement says witnesses identified Snow as the assailant. He was arrested by officers Tuesday after fleeing the scene in a red Chevrolet Impala.

The statement quotes Snow as admitting to stabbing both victims during an argument.

The charge for which Snow was arrested is merely accusation and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
