A Dixon educator faces 19 felony offenses in connection with allegedly having sex with multiple juveniles, according to documents filed in circuit court.
Carissa Smith, born 1994, is charged with nine counts of second-degree statutory rape, three counts of sexual contact with a student, two counts of second-degree sexual trafficking of a child, two counts of statutory sodomy, two counts of hindering the prosecution of a felony, and one count of patronizing prostitution - 14 years and younger. Her bond was set at $250,000.
The case’s probable cause statement cites accounts of two victims who alleged to law enforcement Smith had sex with them and provided them with marijuana and alcohol. Smith also allegedly instructed the victims not to talk about the encounters.
One victim alleged to officers Smith paid them for sex and sent them explicit pictures on social media. That victim told officers the first such incident occurred when the victim was in middle school. The victim additionally detailed one instance during which Smith allegedly refused to get off the victim when asked, and afterwards the victim was paid extra money by Smith.
Another witness told investigators they’d been in a vehicle with one of the victims and Smith while consuming marijuana and alcohol. The witness also alleged they’d seen a video of Smith and the other victim engaged in sexual activity.
The statement details Smith worked as a substitute teacher and paraprofessional with the Dixon School District beginning in 2022 and resigned August.
The charges described above are merely accusations, not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
