The National Weather Service is organizing this year’s national #SafePlaceSelfie campaign. It’s on Wednesday, April 8, and everyone is invited to participate.
First, you have to know where your safe location is when hazardous weather threatens. "SafePlaceSelfie Day" this year will occur on Wednesday, April 8.
Then, you take a “selfie” photograph in that safe place.
And then you post it on your social media with a #SafePlaceSelfie tag at 11:11 a.m. local time on April 8. Then go find others with that tag. Depending on your social media, “Retweet” and “Like” notable selfie posts.
NWS says the goal of this campaign is to “create widespread social media participation that promotes the #1 action that anyone can take to save your life from various types of hazardous weather and doing it in a fun, no-cost, and educational way that may lead to people taking additional future preparedness actions.”
The picture can be of you, your family, your business staff, in your safe location for various hazards in your area.
“This campaign goes well beyond just tornadoes and severe weather, but includes other hazards such as rip currents, tsunamis, wildfires, flooding, lightning, etc.,” the National Weather Service said. “ Along with selfies, messaging can focus on other nuanced messaging of how to be better prepared and weather-ready.
