It will be a new look for the Laquey High boys’ basketball squad on the bench in 2025-26.
Dayton Robison takes over as the new Hornet head coach. Robison replaces Mark Farley, who resigned.
Robison takes over a squad coming off a 9-16 overall record and a 2-6 Frisco League mark. Laquey lost to Belle in the first round of the Class 3 District 8 Tournament.
However, the new coach has experience to build around, including a solid go-to scorer.
Returning starters are 6-1 senior guard Rhyder Martin and 6-3 senior forward Izeyah Boggs. Also back are seniors with plenty of varsity playing time in 6-0 guard Kole Storie, 5-8 guard Seth Creighton and 5-10 guard/forward Gavin Shaw.
Martin earned All-Frisco League and all-district honors by averaging 18.9 points, 5.0 assists and 4.8 rebounds last season. Also for the Hornets Boggs averaged 9.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists; Storie 5.5 points and 1.3 rebounds; Creighton four points and 1.2 rebounds, and Shaw 2.6 points and 1.7 boards.
Others in the varsity mix include 5-9 senior guard Kayden Hendrix, 6-2 sophomore forward Zane Martin and 6-0 freshman guard Aaden Wyatt.
“My offensive philosophy is to play advantage basketball,” Robison said. “We want to play fast and limit turnovers. We have the mindset to always try and attack the rim.”
