The Waynesville High boys’ cross country team finished second in the Licking Invitational, held Thursday, Oct. 9 at Deer Lick Park.
West Plains won the boys’ team title with 18 points while Waynesville was runner-up with 94 and Ava third with 138. West Plains had the top three finishers, led by Hunter Stanley at 16:25.6. David Boyd led Waynesville, placing 10th at 17:42.2.
In the girls’ race Brooklynn Lercher powered the Lady Tigers, finishing fourth at 19:43.5. West Plains’ Kaebrynn Gunter was the girls' medalist at 19:11. West Plains also won the girls’ team championship with 27 points. Waynesville finished sixth with 132.

Sept. 27, Sabala Dam Invitational
The WHS boys’ cross country team placed third in a 10-school field at the Mark Sabala Dam Invitational, held Saturday, Sept 27. at Hermitage.
The field was divided into two divisions, the Class 3-5 Yellow Division and the Class 1-2 Purple Division.
Bolivar won the team title while Lebanon was second and Waynesville third. A unique scoring system was used.
Bolivar’s Landen Young was the individual medalist, finishing the 5,000-meter course in 17:20.95.
Leading Waynesville was Boyd, who placed eighth overall at 18:10.19.
In the girls’ Yellow Division meet, Lercher finished third individually with a time of 20:38.78. Fair Grove’s Katrina Cantwell was the girls’ medalist at 20:12.37.
In the Purple Division small-school boys’ meet, Dixon’s William Sone was sixth overall at 18:07.48; Plato’s Wlliam Chatman 11th at 18:37.08; Stoutland’s Michael Kincaid 17th at 19:02.26, and Laquey’s Conner Hawley 65th at 21:31.87 to lead Frisco League schools.
In the Purple Division’s girls’ meet Stoutland all-stater Mallory Shaw was third individually at 21:36.13 while Plato’s Bella Yourchisin was 13th at 22:54.68 and Laquey’s Aitana Palerm Ruiz 36th at 24:55.39 to lead Frisco League schools.
There were also two-mile boys’ and girls’ middle school races held.

Waynesville also participated in the Oct. 4 of the two-day Camdenton Lady Laker Invitational at HaHa Tonka State Park. In the Gold Division, Waynesville was fifth in the boys’ race and sixth in the girls’ race. Lercher was fourth individually in the girls’ race.
