The Waynesville High cross country team participated in the Camdenton Invitational Day 2 event, held in hot conditions Saturday, Oct. 5 at Ha Ha Tonka State Park.
There was also a Camdenton Invitational Day 1 event held Friday, Oct. 4 at the same venue.
Saturday there were 23 schools participating in the Day 2 event.
In the boys’ meet Springfield Kickapoo won the team title with 56 points while Columbia Hickman was second with 76. Waynesville finished 12th among 18 full teams with 283.
Bolivar’s Landen Young was boys’ medalist, finishing the 5,000-meter course in 16:09.90. Leading Waynesville were Brayden Weigelt, who was 23rd overall at 17:27.18, and David Boyd, 27th at 17:40.55.
The Lady Tigers’ Brooklynn Lercher finished runner-up in the girls’ race, finishing with a time of 19:31.22 behind only Kickapoo’s Alayna Stewart, who was the girls’ medalist at 19:21.51. Bolivar was the girls’ team champion with 44 points. Waynesville did not field a full girls’ team.
The Tigers are to run again Thursday at the Licking Wildcat Invitational.

Waynesville also competed in the Cuba Invitational Wednesday, Oct. 2, and the Tiger boys won the team championship while Lercher was girls’ meet medalist.
In the boys’ meet Waynesville won with 45 points and Vienna was second with 60.
Bourbon’s Brett Payne was boys’ medalist at 18:44.00. For Waynesville, Weigelt was third overall at 19:01.80 and Boyd fifth at 19:15.40.
Lercher won another medalist honor, capturing the race in 21:25.00.
