FALL ATHLETICS: Season-opening practices for Waynesville fall sports
The three-digit temperatures indicate summer is still very much here.
However, on Monday, Aug. 7 it becomes fall on the fields, courts and pitch at high schools around Missouri.
Aug. 7 is the first day that Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) sanctioned schools can begin practice sessions for the 2023 fall athletic seasons.
And the eight fall programs at Waynesville High School will all be busy that day.
Here is a look at the Tiger opening practices:
Football: Head coach Kyle Barkley welcomes players to practice from 3-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, Aug. 7-11. The first hour each day will be in the weight room, then the team will take the field.
Volleyball: Head coach Amber Barkley will have practice at the WHS gym from 8-11 a.m. Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 7-9; from noon-3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, and 8-10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11.
Softball: Head coach Rochelle Maubach directs the Lady Tigers’ first practices from 4-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, Aug. 7-11 at the WHS Softball Field.
Girls’ Tennis: Coach Kaya Wilson welcomes the Lady Tiger netters to practice at the WHS Tennis Courts from 8-10 a.m. Aug. 7-11.
Girls’ Golf: Coach Nathan Boeh will have meetings and practice at Piney Valley Golf Course from 8-10:30 a.m. Aug. 7-11.
Cross Country: Coach Heather Hawn will hold the first Tiger practice from 6-7:30 a.m. at the WHS Track Aug. 7. The rest of the week’s practices will be from 6-7:30 a.m. at Waynesville City Park.
Boys’ Swimming: Coach Nicole Stone will have her swimmers at the Lieber Heights Pool from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 7-11. Practice will take place there until renovations at the Davidson Fitness Center Pool at Fort Leonard Wood are complete.
Boys’ Soccer: Practice times for Eric Thornburg’s squad is 7-10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7; 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8; 7-10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9; 6-8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, and 7-10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11. All practices are scheduled for the high school turf field except for Thursday, which will be on the grass field.
