The good news for the Waynesville Tiger football team - the slate gets wiped clean Friday night, Oct. 31.
The Tigers finished the regular season winless for the second straight season. However, they’re 0-0 heading into Class 5 District 5 playoff action Friday.
Waynesville ended the regular season with a 56-7 home loss to longtime rival Lebanon Friday, Oct. 24 on Tiger Senior Night at the WHS Field.
The Waynesville Tigers have been seeded No. 6 for Class 5 District 5.
In first-round action Oct. 31, Waynesville (0-9) travels to Springfield to take on third-seeded Central Ozark Conference foe Glendale (5-4). Kickoff is 7 p.m.
In other District 5 first-round games fourth-seeded Jefferson City (4-5) hosts fifth-seeded Camdenton (2-7) while second-seeded Capital City (5-4) hosts Springfield Hillcrest (0-9).
In the semifinals Nov. 7 top-seeded Lebanon (5-4) plays the Jefferson City/Camdenton winner while the Capital City/Hillcrest winner meets the Waynesville/Glendale winner at the location of the highest seed. The district title game is slated for Nov. 14 at the location of the highest seed.
It will be the second meeting for Waynesville against Glendale. The Glendale Falcons defeated WHS 44-14 in Waynesville Oct. 3.
The Tigers will be trying to snap a 23-game losing streak, dating back to 2023.
Oct. 24 - Lebanon 56, WHS 7: It was all Lebanon Yellowjackets from the start. The Tigers committed three turnovers, and Lebanon scored touchdowns off all of them.
On the game’s opening kickoff Lebanon recovered an on-side kick, and two plays later senior running back Brayden Christian broke off a 41-yard touchdown run. Senior Rhett Rhoades added the first of his eight PAT kicks.
The Jackets added two more TDs in the first period, on a 26-yard pass from junior QB Beckett York to senior wideout Brody Shoemaker and a 39-yard interception return by senior cornerback Josiah Simmonds.
Lebanon made it 35-0 at halftime with second-quarter TDs of a six-yard run by Christian and a two-yard pass from York to Shoemaker.
The Jackets would add three more touchdowns with the turbo clock running throughout the second half - on a three-yard York pass, a two-yard run by sophomore Malachi Simmonds and a three-yard run by junior Ayden Montoya.
Waynesville avoided the shutout when sophomore running back Samuel Borno-Chrispin broke away on an 84-yard touchdown run with 2:11 left.
Lebanon had 386 yards of total offense compared to 136 for the Tigers. WHS finished with three first downs.
Chrispin paced the Tigers with 97 rushing yards on four carries. Christian finished with 206 yards on 21 carries.
