Nixa did most of its damage early against the Waynesville Tigers Friday, Oct. 10, as the No. 1-ranked team in the Missouri Media Class 6 state poll rolled to a 55-14 Central Ozark Conference victory at Nixa.
Waynesville fell to 0-7 while Nixa stayed undefeated at 7-0.
Nixa erupted for five touchdowns in the first quarter and was in control the rest of the way. It was 35-0 after the first period and the Eagles took a 48-0 edge into intermission.
The Tigers created some offense in the third period, scoring two touchdowns. Nixa finished the scoring with a fourth-quarter TD.
Nixa ended with 522 yards of total offense - 391 of it coming on the ground. Junior Jax Adams did most of the damage, exploding for 200 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries while senior Jayden McCaster ran for 108 yards and three TDs on seven carries. Junior quarterback Adam McKnight had a pair of big-play TD passes, one to Randy Flint for 71 yards and the other to Scholar Brown for 60 yards.
McCaster, an all-state transfer player, now has 1,146 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns.
Waynesville will play another road game this week, traveling to Springfield to meet Kickapoo Friday, Oct. 17 (7 p.m.).
Oct. 3 - Glendale 44, WHS 14: The Springfield Glendale Falcons didn’t forget how to throw the ball after pass-happy Mike Mauk left as head coach.
Glendale rolled up 330 yards of total offense - including 279 passing yards - in a 44-14 win over the Tigers at Waynesville.
The Falcons, now 4-3, got four touchdowns in the first quarter on a four-yard run by junior running back Cameron Major, a 19-yard interception return by senior Tyler Webb, a 16-yard pass from senior QB Cash Newberry to junior WR Trevor Heman and on a five-yard run by junior running back Samari Pickett. Heman added all four PATs.
Pickett’s second TD - on a three-yard run - with :46 left in the first half gave the Falcons a 34-0 advantage at intermission.
In the third period Heman again hooked up with Newberry for a 13-yard TD pass and booted a 31-yard field goal.
Waynesville got a pair of second-half touchdowns from junior MJ Greene, on a five-yard pass from sophomore QB Ryder Wells in the third period and on a seven-yard pass from Wells in the fourth quarter.
Waynesville finished with 129 yards of total offense – 99 of it passing. Wells hit on 13-of-27 passes for 99 yards, two interceptions and the two TDs. Sophomore Samuel Borno-Chrispin had an interception for the Tigers.
Newberry completed 17-of-23 passes for 203 yards, with Heman catching eight passes for 80 yards, junior Joelle Rover seven for 80 and senior Jacan Seats two for 74. Webb intercepted two passes.
