The host Waynesville High girls’ tennis team tied for fourth in the Waynesville Invitational, held Wednesday, Oct. 1 at the WHS Tennis Courts.
Logan-Rogersville was the team champion with 24 points while Capital City finished second with 22 points, Lebanon third with nine points, Waynesville and Springfield Glendale tied four fourth with eight points, School of the Osage sixth with seven points, Willow Springs seventh with five points, Marshfield eighth with one point and Rolla ninth with zero.
Highlighting play for the host Lady Tigers was senior Lauryn Lercher, who finished third in the Singles Flight 2 Division. Lercher defeated Rolla’s Lucy Conger 8-5 in the first round; lost to Audrey Mastroianni of Logan-Rogersville 8-6 in the semifinals and defeated Malorie Montgomery of Springfield Glendale 8-3 in the third-place match.
In the Singles Flight 1, Waynesville’s sophomore Eliana Huckaba finished fourth. Huckaba beat Osage’s Macy Sakelaris 8-1 in the first round; lost to Liya Jones of Logan-Rogersville 8-3in the semifinals, and in the third-place match lost to Lily Bradbury of Lebanon 8-4.
Jones was the Singles Flight 1 champion and Mastroianni the Singles Flight 2 champion.
For Waynesville in Doubles Flight 1 competition senior Haley Emerson/junior Alayna Beels lost to Willow Springs’ Karis Cochran/Sherridin Hoskins 8-1 in the first round and lost to Miah Samuelsson/Madeleine Greenway 6-4 in the losers bracket. Megan Wilde/Addyson Spencer of Capital City was the doubles champion, beating Piper Brickner/Lauren Adkins of Osage 8-0 in the title match.
In Doubles Flight 2 Waynesville’s senior Alessandra Eggart-Velasquez/sophomore Cassandra Hays placed fourth. Eggart-Velasquez/Hays beat Zoey Johnson/Riley-Faye Unrush of Willow Springs 9-7 in the first round; lost to Mikayla McNutt/Layla Adams of Capital City 8-1 in the semifinals and in the third-place match lost to Ava Johnson/Carli Alford of Lebanon 8-5. McNutt/Adams was Doubles Flight 2 champion.
The Lady Tigers are scheduled to play a dual meet at Rolla Monday, Oct. 6.
