On Dec. 26, the LPC Alumni Foundation, in partnership with the Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce, the Committee of Fifty, and with continued support from the Cities of St. Robert and Waynesville, proudly hosted the third annual “Salute to the Season” at the St. Robert Community Center. What began as a heartfelt effort to support Soldiers in Training during the holidays has grown into a cherished tradition rooted in compassion, gratitude, and community pride.
This year’s event honored 120 Soldiers in Training from Fort Leonard Wood who were unable to return home during the holiday season for a variety of reasons. Some were logistical, others financial, and a few were deeply personal. Understanding the emotional toll of being separated from loved ones during such a meaningful time, the local community came together to provide a home away from home filled with warmth, camaraderie, and holiday cheer.
The evening featured lively entertainment, festive decorations, games, and a fully catered holiday meal served with care. The venue was filled with smiles, laughter, and heartfelt conversations that reflected the powerful connection between the military and the Mid-Missouri community.
Special thanks were extended to the many local businesses, organizations, and individuals whose generosity made the evening possible. Route 66 Taco and Wing Company catered the entire holiday meal, while Vidies Catering provided delicious desserts. Tabernacle Baptist Church coordinated transportation for the Soldiers. Iberia DJ Service kept the energy high with music and fun, and Cedar Visual Media captured every meaningful moment on video and camera.
Gratitude was also extended to the many businesses, nonprofits, and individuals who made financial contributions. These generous donations allowed nearly every Soldier in Training to receive a gift card, adding an extra touch of appreciation to their evening.
This year’s event welcomed eight Drill Sergeants and the Holdover Company Leadership, including Captain Cook and First Sergeant Wood, who attended alongside the Soldiers in Training. The success of the event was also thanks to the 45 volunteers from across the region who helped bring the night to life. From setting up and serving meals to greeting guests and creating a festive environment, these volunteers demonstrated the best of what it means to serve those who serve.
James Breckinridge, Mayor of St. Robert and event organizer, reflected on the meaning behind the evening:
“This night is deeply personal for me,” said Breckinridge. “I’ve lived that experience of being away from home during the holidays, and it’s never easy. Being able to give back and remind these Soldiers that they’re supported, valued, and not alone is something I’m incredibly proud of. This community stepped up in a big way, and that means everything.”
Cecilia Murray, Executive Director of the Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce, was instrumental in coordinating the event. Her leadership and commitment to the military community helped make the evening a success.
“We live in the most amazing and generous community,” said Murray. “The volunteer support this year that we received, including from outside of the host organizations, was unmatched. The businesses and individuals that donated services, product, and gift cards broke records this year. Watching the service members enjoy the evening celebrating them this holiday season filled my heart with joy.”
As “Salute to the Season” enters its third year, it continues to stand as more than just a holiday event. It is a community tradition and a reminder that even when our service members are far from home, they are never far from the hearts of the people of St. Robert and the surrounding region.
The LPC Alumni Foundation, the Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce, and the Committee of Fifty extend sincere thanks to everyone who made this year’s event possible. Together, we continue to reflect the true meaning of the holidays: unity, gratitude, and giving.
