We at the city of Waynesville are excited about this great opportunity to share information and updates for our community. I wanted to take the opportunity here in our first article to share the intent and a couple of events that will take place in the next few weeks.
The intent of this column is to share updates and keep those who choose to read the newspaper to stay connected locally. Of course, the city of Waynesville has a YouTube channel, city podcast, newsletter, email subscription, radio updates (KFBD/KJPW and 1079 Coyote), Facebook and LinkedIn. We also realize that with a community as diverse as Waynesville it's important to take our news to every outlet. We are doing our best to reach citizens in their preferred outlet, but we need everyone to participate and share this with your area of influence.
The city is currently improving our website, and we are almost three weeks into the design and migration process, which is an exciting time. This is a long-sought upgrade to help us become more efficient, user-friendly and streamlined with information. This new outlet will have an option for users to download the city app for those who do not utilize social media. We are also making sure that all our outlets follow the Americans with Disabilities Act Standards or are ADA Compliant.
Recently the city has sent out a survey regarding the identification of Lead Water Service Lines. This request was initiated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and to the municipalities. The city has a requirement to inform all citizens of the request to receive a response from those contacted. If a person does not know, that is a viable response.
Some citizens have expressed their disapproval of the request, and we completely understand, however, those agencies are at both federal and state levels. We do appreciate everyone who has taken the time to return their surveys. We have to submit our report no later than Oct. 16, so please try to return the survey by Oct. 1. It's that time of the year, fall cleanup for the city of Waynesville will take place from Oct. 10 and 11 on your respective trash days. All items need to be curbside by 7 a.m. If you have questions, please call the transfer station at 573-336-5155.
Our third annual Hogs and Frogs event is taking place from Sept. 20-22. Make sure you stop by and enjoy the festivities; there will be plenty for the entire family to do and many competitions and ways to participate. Visit www.route66hogsandfrogsfest.com for more information about all the events. I’m looking forward to seeing you there and in Waynesville Rubidoux Park.
