The Waynesville High School cross country team opened its season by competing in the Jim Marshall Invitational, held Saturday, Aug. 30 at the Jefferson City Cole County Fairgrounds.
The event had 3,200-meter races for boys’ and girls’ junior varsity, Class 1-3 and Class 4-5 divisions.
In the boys’ Class 4-5 Division Waynesville placed third out of five teams with 80 points. Capital City won with 30.
Jefferson City Helias’ Daniel Morris won the Class 4-5 race at 10:28.74. Leading Waynesville was David Boyd, who placed third overall at 11:06.59.
In the Class 4-5 girls’ race Capital City won with 28 points while Waynesville was fourth with 79.
Waynesville’s Brooklynn Lercher was third individually at 13:24.71. Helias’ Magdalena Barnes was the meet medalist at 12:33.82.
WHS is to run again Saturday, Sept. 6 at the SWCCCA Meet in Bolivar.
